Topic: The Relevance of OD in Today’s Federal Workplace

Facilitator: Sandra Wells, Ed.D, RODP

Sandy Wells is currently the Director and Chief Learning Officer for the U.S. Department of Interior’s Office of Strategic Employee and Organization Development.  Sandy was trained as an Army Organizational Effectiveness Staff Officer and has a master’s degree and doctorate in OD.  Sandy has thirty years of experience in the private sector (Lockheed, Northrop, Applied Materials, ServiceMaster, Columbia Healthcare), three years at the U.S. General Services Administration and four years at the U.S. Department of Interior.  She also served ten years as an Executive Coach and Feedbacker with CCL’s Texas-based affiliate, Tecnologica Administrativa Moderna.

Sandy’s research in leadership development was published in her book, Women Entrepreneurs: Developing Leaders for Success, part of a Columbia University series on entrepreneurs.  Her work in ServiceMaster’s Integrated Service Healthcare business was recognized as a “Best Practice” in Linkage’s Best Practices in Organization and Human Resource Development (2001).

Sandy has been married 36 years to Bruce Wells, has three sons (all Feds!), and eight-about-to-be-nine grandchildren!

Program:
Today’s federal workplace is facing a myriad of challenges that threaten our ability to meet our Federal missions.  Declining budgets, retiring workforces, a critical taxpaying public, pay and hiring freezes: all represent opportunities for OD professionals to contribute.   In this short discussion, Sandy will share how her experiences as the senior OD professional at the Department of the Interior and in the private sector can help address the meaty issues we all face.
