Richmond SIG:

Topic: Medium/Large Organization Turnaround Methodology and Systems Options

Speaker: Mike McDermott

Michael McDermott is the owner of Enterprise Tune-Up, LLC, a profit improvement, business performance coaching and turnaround consultancy for medium-sized and transitioning small businesses located in Glen Allen, Virginia (and a SWaM certified business).

He is the originator of the “Profit Tune-Up”, a new paradigm for business improvement. The pace of change is accelerating. The lifetime of a competitive advantage today is measured in months rather than years so organizations no longer have the time or money for lengthy and expensive change initiatives. Business owners are looking for the 20% of quick and inexpensive projects that will offer the 80% of profit improvement potential. After 20 years of study and practice Michael McDermott has consolidated the six most effective and efficient profit improvement strategies, tips and tools into a “Profit Tune-Up”.

1. Financial: Cash Flow, Margins, Competitive Performance Benchmarking, Expenses
2.  Pragmatic Business Strategy: Competitive Differentiation, Expanding Services/Products and  Market Niches
3.  “Lifetime Customer” Attractiveness
4.  Visibility, Marketing and Capturing Sales
5.  Employee Engagement & Productivity
6.  Core Process Efficiency & Effectiveness

His experience includes corporate management and field operations for medium-sized organizations involving turnarounds, mergers & acquisitions, start-ups and change management in a variety of industries. His hobby and passion is discovering pragmatic, inexpensive and creative solutions for organizational effectiveness & profitability.

Michael is the author of  “2009-2011 Recession Survival Guide-414 Actions Business Owners Can Take to Weather the Storm and Boost Profits” (available through Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com). He is a certified LEAN Practitioner, has a B.A. in Psychology and an internship in counseling psychology. He is a listed speaker for Vistage International (CEO mentoring) and is a certified trainer for DDI and Zenger-Miller.

Michael is an experienced public speaker and has been a guest expert for print publications, radio and public forums on the topics of profit improvement, employee productivity & engagement, cost reduction, customer satisfaction and strategic planning.  He can offer compelling PowerPoint supported workshops on topics related to any of the six profit improvement tactics described above.

His professional affiliations include Turnaround Management Association.  He is a volunteer with SCORE/U.S. Small Business Administration (“Counselors to America’s Small Business”) and Past Chairman of the Richmond SCORE Small Business Profit Improvement Team.
