Topic: VUCA as the Imperative for Vertical Development - EVENT FULL (Please contact Peggy to be added to the WaitList.)

In an age that can be characterized as immersing us all in a regular dose of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA), there is a compelling argument to be made for leaders to intentionally explore their behavior through the perspective of adult development theory. In this session we will generate some practical take-aways vis-à-vis how we, as coaches and consultants, might support our clients in strengthening the capacities called-for by this reality.

    Presenters: Steve Heller

A PCC-credentialed member of the ICF, Steve served for many years on the Board of Directors of its Washington, DC chapter (including a term as its President). He obtained his Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University in 2005. After six years as an Adjunct Faculty member for that program, Steve served as its Program Director from January of 2015 through early 2017. He is a team member of the group that coaches TED Fellows, provides leadership coaching to Fellows at the Halcyon Incubator, and serves on the Board of the new Georgetown ITL Network [a 501(c)(3)].

If you want to attend please RSVP by email to Peggy Linden, Coaching CoP co-leader: peggy.linden@gmail.com.

Changes:  We are changing the way we run the Coaching Community of Practice.  Those who receive notice they are on the attendance list will pay $5.00 by Venmo to reserve their place.  We will send instructions regarding using Venmo when you receive notice you are on the attendance list.  We will not be offering refunds.  We ask that cancellations be at least 48 hours in advance so we can contact those on the waiting list and give them sufficient notice to attend.  If necessary, last minute cancellations are appreciated so we can do the appropriate room set-up.

In order to balance who attends we delay notifying those on the attendance list for up to a week to include those who have not attended recently.  We also encourage new members to attend.  We apologize if you do not get on the attendance list each month and hope you understand that we want to include more members, not only those who responded quickly.  We limit our sessions to 30 attendees as we sit in a circle to encourage full participation. From now on those who are 'no-shows' or last minute cancellations will  be placed on the waiting list for future meetings until we have openings.   RSVP only if you want to attend, no need to send 'regrets.'

Please let us know if you are a new member or have not attended the last three or more sessions.  We are very grateful for your interest and support.

We need a few volunteers to help set up the room.  Please let me know if you can assist us at 6:00.

You will receive notification within the next seven days about whether you are on the list to attend or on the waiting list.  Also, please include the phone number where you can be reached if we need to contact you the day of the meeting.  Be sure to check your email for any updates if the weather is challenging or for any other changes that evening.

Topic: Experience the Leadership Embodiment Model

The October program will present the science behind the Leadership Embodiment model, created by Wendy Palmer. We’ll learn what makes (LE) Leadership Embodiment unique, accessible and powerful. Each of us has our own personal space or ‘bubble.’ The use of LE tools immediately increases leadership presence and emphasizes shifting from protecting our self to interconnectedness with others. It empowers different responses to pressure, challenges, and possibilities. When we learn how to change this personal space through LE’s “outside–in” approach, we find energy and inspiration outside of ourselves.

    Presenters: Wendy Luke

Co-Presenters: Luann Barndt, Marcia Feola, Elizabeth Hauler. All presenters are certified in Leadership Embodiment.

Wendy Luke, Professional Certified Coach, coaches and trains senior executives and high- potential midcareer and emerging professionals facing complex management issues. Her emphasis is on empowering people to see and remove the roadblocks that slow them down and replace them with behaviors that let them excel. Her 30+ years of experience covers a broad range of for-profits, non-profits and federal government.

Topic: Missing Conversations: A Leader’s Most Potent Asset for Change

Many leaders spend most of their days in back-to-back meetings, where there is a great deal of talking, but very little real conversation. A deeper look reveals that many of the most potent conversations that leaders need to be engaged in are actually missing. This session will provide a framework to help leaders identify these missing conversations and engage in them with greater skillfulness, care and candor.

    Presenters: Bridget Theurer

Bridgette Theurer is a partner in Relient Leadership LLC, and the co-author of the book Missing Conversations: 9 Questions all Leaders Should Ask Themselves. Recently she partnered with Bob Duggan and Jim Moyer to design and deliver a wide-scale leadership development program for senior leaders at the Food and Drug Administration based on the Resilient Leadership model. Bridgette and Bob have recently written a new book, Resilient Leadership 2.0: Leading with Calm, Clarity and Conviction during Anxious Times

Topic: Understanding the Transition to Postconventional Meaning-Making

In our January 2018 session, Chris Wahl presented a well-received program on the stages of adult development. In this interactive session, we will learn what it takes to transition from conventional to postconventional meaning-making in the stages of our development. This transition can be both extremely exciting ~ and rocky. We will look at what this transition entails, and what awareness a person needs to navigate it. As always, the topic lends itself to your own discovery as well as application in your work with clients.

(It is not necessary to have attended the previous January 2018 session.)

    Presenters: Chris Wahl, M.A. Ed.

Chris Wahl is an executive coach and organization development consultant who has coached executive leaders and their teams for over two decades. Certified as a Development Coach, Chris helps clients build their capacity to succeed beyond their challenges and recognize opportunities to create a thriving professional life. She is the founder and creator of the Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Certificate program and is adjunct faculty in Georgetown’s Transformational Leadership program, as well as in George Mason University’s advanced coaching program.
